A perfectly glorious day. But first we need to recap on some of the wildlife from yesterday. Our internet situation was definitely subpar, so yesterday’s post was a challenge.
This morning, we watched the dawn break over Lake Taupo. There was a small matter of what to eat for breakfast as we had no breakfast foods. With great ingenuity – please don’t judge us – we made do-it-yourself pop tarts. If you do not know what these are, you are better for it. If you do, you may or may not understand the allure. All we will say is that we were hungry. A low carb wrap folded in quarters can be put in the toaster for two cycles and then filled with jam. It will tide you over ‘til you can find a real breakfast. The latter was waiting at the Cadillac Café in Turangi.
We drove the desert road past Tongariro National Park, a volcanic national park in the center of the North Island, and then along the west coast of the lower North Island. We stopped to see the Richmonds and picked up the conversation like it was yesterday. We arrived at Waikanae Beach, where we are very pleased with our place and our view. Not wanting to let the dust settle, we took a walk on our beach and admired Kapiti Island, a bird sanctuary. It will be the first of many walks. Ahhh!

Interesting terrain on the Richmond’s deer farm. The photo makes me want to walk up those hills! Do they actually farm deer? Never heard of that. The Lake Taupo views are incredibly beautiful. Enjoying your blog.

Thanks for the comment! Yes, they raise deer the way other farmers raise cattle – except that deer are much smarter, faster, and better jumpers.
